Introducing my Book Fairy

So much has happened since I last blogged. I've been in 8 countries in 3 continents for a start! Once life gets back to normal I will post more photos and blog a bit more about what we did and saw, but for now here's a picture of my lovely book fairy which I bought at the opening of the Plush You! show at Schmancy Toys in Seattle. This amazing doll caught my eye when Kristen posted a picture of her on instagram when it arrived at the shop for the show, and then when I saw it in real life I knew she had to be mine! She is made by Pheleon Creations. I have lots of photos from the opening of the show and will blog about it in a few days time.

Nerdy Nora

This is Nerdy Nora. If you want to meet her in real life then make sure you're at the Plush You! opening night at Schmancy Toys, 1932 2nd Avenue, Seattle on 12th October at 17:00. Click here to go to the facebook event page for more info.

Posting Parcels

I seem to have got out of the habit of blogging - I guess life has been busy and I haven't had much time for making and baking. But in the time I have had, I have been getting things ready to post. This is my first parcel I sent off to PlushYou containing 2 lovely amigurumi dolls. Yesterday I sent a parcel to my Plush Team swap partner and hopefully today I'll send another parcel to PlushYou - just need to make time to put the finishing touches to that doll... And talking of PlushYou, there's an interview with me which went up on their blog last week. You can see it here.

PlushYou 2011

The PlushYou 2011 opening night was on Friday. As I don't live anywhere near Seattle I didn't go, but some of my dolls made it there without me! I haven't seen many photos yet, I'm sure they'll start to appear on Flickr soon, but I did see this one on twitter and if you look carefully you can spot my dolls :) Thanks to Kristen and Schmancy Toys for putting on this exhibition again.

PlushYou 2010 - I'm in!

PlushYou is an annual Plush Art show which takes place in the USA. It is curated by Kristen Rask, owner of Schmancy. This year there will be 2 shows, one in LA and one in Seattle. I applied to the LA show a few months ago and didn't get in but then I applied again to the Seattle show and today I got an email to say I have been accepted! I had to read the email 3 times to check that I wasn't dreaming! I'm so excited to have this opportunity :) The show is in October and I very much doubt that I'll be going in person, but I'm sure some of my friends from the Plush Team will take some photos for me!

Schmancy Olympic Challenge Entry

Back in January Kristen at Plushyou announced the Schmancy Plush Olympic Challenge. I signed up and was given the category Opening Ceremonies.

I decided that my inspiration needed to come from the Sarajevo 1984 Winter Olympics. In 1984 Sarajevo was in Yugoslavia. Now it is the capital city of Bosnia Herzegovina - the country I live in. I googled 'olympic flame opening ceremony sarajevo 1984' and the first image that comes up is this one:

This is Sanda Dubravčić who was the final torchbearer for the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics where she represented Yugoslavia in Figure Skating.

And this is my plush intepretation of that photo! I'm not sure that I'll get far in the competition but I've had fun making my entry :)

preparing for the winter olympics...

Yesterday we went to Sarajevo. There are many good reasons to go to Sarajevo, including the amazing cafe Torte i to where you can get the best cheesecake ever and the fact that there is a cinema. But yesterday we found another reason - sledging! The Winter Olympics in 1984 were held in Sarajevo which was then part of Yugoslavia. (today it is the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina in case you didn't know) Yesterday we were walking around in the park enjoying the snow and then we saw some people sledging down the paths. This made some of our group very excited so we went across the street to the toy shop and bought some little plastic sledge thingys and joined in the fun! Winter Olympics has been on my mind a lot recently because of entering the Schmancy Olympic Challenge competition. I hope that yesterday's brief winter sports fun in the Olympic City of Sarajevo will bring me inspiration and that I come up with something really fab!
