Still Enjoying the Snow!

We've been going snowboarding a couple of times a week. Yesterday we went to try out the slopes at Rostovo for the first time. I'm getting better everytime I go. Still not confident enough to go on the lift and snowboard down from the top, but that will come...

A Good Start to the Year

2013 got off to a good start. We spent New Years Eve in London on the Victoria Embankment, dancing in the street and watching the amazing fireworks.

Then we came home to Bosnia to 10 days of snowboarding. I had intended to just sit and watch the others as I was terrified of the idea of snowboarding, but somehow I got convinced to join in and after a day and a half I managed to snowboard on my own without holding onto anyone! I can only do it on a gentle slope, the idea of going to the top of a ski lift also terrifies me, but it's more than I ever thought I'd do and I've got the rest of the winter to improve as we have a ski centar just 30 mins drive from our front door.

And just to prove that I did it...

Snow makes everything look beautiful.

I have never been so cold!

I don't think I have ever felt so cold as I have these last few days - but you can't complain too much when everything looks so beautiful and white :)

First snow-day in Jajce

Last night it snowed - not for the first time this winter, but it was the first time that the snow settled. This is the view from my window this morning - an attempt at a panorama photo hence the line because I don't know how to edit photos! Anyway, as you can see it is a beautiful view. There is another mountain behind the last one you can see but the clouds were over it this morning. This is our first winter living in a really wintry place. I am so excited to see the snow - and this is just the beginning. I can't wait to see snow up to my knees :)

A lot of today's snow has melted already but here is another view from early this evening:

there's snow on the mountains!

In an earlier post I wrote about how the view from our windows here is amazing - well this morning we woke up to snow on the mountains which makes it even more beautiful. I can't wait to see what it's like with snow everywhere and the sun shining. This photo doesn't really do it justice - it's cloudy and grey, but it gives you an idea of what it looks like. You can also see the thick black cable which is our new telephone line put in last week to finally connect us to the internet. It has been put installed in a pretty dodgy way - it hangs down really low before it gets to the telegraph pole and the first night after they installed it the cable slipped down a bit more making the whole house shake!

This is a bad attempt at taking a panoramic picture from our windows! The wall doesn't really bend at that point! As you can see this was on a sunny day and before the installation of the phone line! The ruins on the right are of a mosque.

preparing for the winter olympics...

Yesterday we went to Sarajevo. There are many good reasons to go to Sarajevo, including the amazing cafe Torte i to where you can get the best cheesecake ever and the fact that there is a cinema. But yesterday we found another reason - sledging! The Winter Olympics in 1984 were held in Sarajevo which was then part of Yugoslavia. (today it is the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina in case you didn't know) Yesterday we were walking around in the park enjoying the snow and then we saw some people sledging down the paths. This made some of our group very excited so we went across the street to the toy shop and bought some little plastic sledge thingys and joined in the fun! Winter Olympics has been on my mind a lot recently because of entering the Schmancy Olympic Challenge competition. I hope that yesterday's brief winter sports fun in the Olympic City of Sarajevo will bring me inspiration and that I come up with something really fab!

a snowy day in Mostar

This is my first non-amigurumi related post! but I thought I'd show you what our street looks like today. I don't know if I've ever seen this kind of snow before - coming from the south of England -and it's pretty unusual here in Mostar too. We went out into town to enjoy the snow this morning and took lots of photos. I love this photo because of the bright colours of the graffiti against the beautiful white snow.
